As with foreclosed properties, you might get a job that asks for additional work, work you might not be able, or want, to perform. That’s why it’s good to get in with people in trades related to hauling away junk, such as handymen, house cleaners, plumbers, painters and more. If you hear about a foreclosure job, talk with your “team,” get everyone’s price, and then you can put together a bid for the job. It’s also just a good idea to get to know people in other trades as they can throw work your way and you can throw some their way too.
As mentioned, ask your friends, known person from your country to help you out in searching for the room. Building a network of such people become really helpful sometime, like in this case. If they have a good intention towards you then definitely they are going to help you.
Damage deposit. A 0 damage deposit is a reasonable amount. If you know a student who has rented an apartment in this building, find out if their damage deposit was returned.
Other than providing you with Internet and network connection the installation of a wireless card has other advantages. They give you more freedom to move your laptop. With no wired connection you can even venture outdoors. Installation is very simple and requires little setup most of the time.
Do YOUR RESEARCH- Hire one of the top real estate agents in the area to obtain statistics, market information, schools, demographics- and compare it to the research you’ve done-remember these are big investments. See if the agent wants to make a sale-or really wants to build long term business relationship with you. Not all areas have high demands for rentals like others. Usually lower income neighborhoods or areas near schools where university apartments is short have higher demand. Who do you want as your tenants? Certain areas have high demand for student rentals, where others have high demand for families and singles. Obviously you cannot discriminate, but you can buy in an area that’s the best match for you. I’ve had both and seen it all, so feel free to email me questions!
If weeknight partying continues despite your reminders, you may have to scout out some alternate study zones. In my experience, obvious studying areas such as the library or a coffee shop near campus are poor choices. They are typically overrun with students and can, ironically, get quite distracting. Look instead to some smaller study areas around campus or perhaps a nearby public library.
There is much debate about where the best shopping occurs in London. Many posh study abroad college students will want to choose between Kings Street, which houses Harrods, and Oxford Street, which is arguably one of London’s most busy streets. For those thrifty study abroad students (what college student isn’t thrifty?) you will want to head over to Picadilly Circus or Nottinghill for a chance to walk around the independent tent vendors and eclectic stores.
